Avis + Budget - Car Group & Category Pages

Problem/Request Brief

The purpose of this request is to enhance our existing car group template (Economy Car, Full-Size SUV, 15 Passenger Van, etc.) to accommodate specific SEO content and create a new template that showcases our vehicle categories (SUV Rentals, Pickup Truck Rentals, etc.) Referencing the supporting SEO content templates, enhance our existing car group template, and develop a car category template that can be used to showcase our car groups and categories as well as accommodate our SEO requirements.

Our SEO agency has provided specific content criteria that must be accounted for when creating these templates (H1, H2, Vehicle Features, etc.)

Where possible, I plan to have as much imagery and content pulled in dynamically if possible. For example, for the car group page (Standard SUV/Ford Edge) when pulling in features, we will be pulling in the features that are currently listed on the car guide and Step 2 of the res flow. Please look at what is currently displayed and find a way to account for it in the design.

For the vehicle features specifically, I would like to have an optional/secondary design to highlight the more modern features our vehicles have (i.e. backup camera, GPS, heated seats, etc.). I will provide a document that indicates some of these features for your reference. When designing, make sure this section is displayed in a manner that it can be easily turned on and off.

For the car category template (SUV Rentals, Pickup Truck Rentals, etc.) while we can include lifestyle imagery, I would also like to dynamically pull in our standard vehicle imagery (for example step 2, car guide, select series page) so that this page is not overwhelmingly manual. It should be designed and developed in a manner that if the page was generated automatically, it would still be presentable in production.

The car category template should be designed to accommodate a sticky widget and both templates should have a bookend reservation call to action that anchors to the widget at the top of the page (sticky or standard).

Research - AVIS

After reviewing Avis's current (at that time) car group page, it was empty and didn't help their users understand each car detail in that specific car group.

Based on the request requirements, I presented to the stakeholders low-fidelity wireframes as a starting point for the new layout & structure of the category and car group pages. Once approved, designed high-fidelity wireframes to continue to display the concept of each page.

Research - BUDGET

After reviewing Budget's current (at that time) car group page, it was also empty and needed to help their users understand each car detail in that specific car group.

Avis and Budget often follow each other structure, but their design is different. Since both brands mostly feed off each other layout, I used the same low-fidelity wireframes as Avis and applied them to Budget. After review and approval, I designed high-fidelity wireframes to continue to show the concept of each page.

Conclusion

The stakeholders were very excited and satisfied with the design concepts based on their requested requirements, that they wanted to push delivery straight to the developers for production. Before this inquiry can be met, I provided the development team with an InVision prototype to view designs & specs. But because of this high demand, a further review was needed, thus putting the project on hold.
